Ohra
1997. Arnhem, The Netherlands
I look for transparancy by basing my work on a concept.
In the new Ohra building, designed by architect Paul Dirks, I work with large, sandstoned glass screens, and with these fragile objects I embrace large spaces. Roads always lead to people. Like little whirligig beetles on the water, paths can be built as an intimate act of cooperation.
However, the secret of these walks remains visually obscure. Mass embraces space and protects against outside influences. Every house has to be a home, a 'shelter', and has to appeal to the child within us that longs for protection. Illusion creates space, a word is suggestion, a colour contrast, music poetry in sound.
