My city
1999. 's Hertogenbosch, The Netherlands
While working with clay and porcelain, these materials, which cost almost nothing but is priceless to designers, move me.
Unlike the material of my small and large objects, clay is a tough material, with clearly defined dimensions. During the firing and glazing of the pots physical strength and patience is required. Furthermore, after the sheer sensation of opening the oven, this once soft mud may turn out to be cracked or it may be dropped by someone later on.
The most touching quality of clay is that it can create hollow forms. My city vases - made by Cor Unum - are my pride and joy, and the heritage of the incredible convent life of the European Ceramic Work Centre in 's Hertogenbosch.
